Tempered Safety Glass
High-strength glass for maximum safety in every opening.
Tempered glass is heat-treated to be roughly four times stronger than standard annealed glass and, when it does break, crumbles into small blunt pieces instead of shards. Building code requires it in doors, sidelites, shower enclosures, railings, near floors and anywhere else people can walk into glass.
RPM Glass supplies tempered glass cut to size, edged and fabricated for storefronts, doors, partitions, table tops, railings and residential windows. Because tempered glass cannot be cut after treatment, accurate measurement matters — we measure on site and take responsibility for fit.
We also help owners and property managers identify openings that should be safety glazing but aren't — a frequent finding in older commercial buildings — and replace them to bring the property into compliance.

Frequently asked questions
Where is tempered glass required by code?
Doors, glass within 24" of a door, panels within 18" of the floor, shower and tub enclosures, railings, stairways and large lites near walking surfaces, among others.
Tempered vs laminated — which do I need?
Tempered is stronger and shatters safely; laminated stays in one piece when broken and adds security and sound control. Some applications, like overhead glass and guardrails, call for laminated tempered.
